2018

Sweater | Bag | Leggings | Hat

It feels so good to be back with a new post! Blogging is truly my passion, and I can’t wait to share so much with you!

2017 was my best year yet, after starting a new business venture, which rippled into countless positive changes. It’s easy to lose yourself after becoming a new mom, and it was just what I needed to find myself again, and really be able to utilize my creativity, while joining an amazing tribe of women. Not to mention, it’s drastically changed my skin!

My goals for 2018 are simplifying any area that I can. Instead of spending time searching for a new workout to do each day and creating a weekly schedule, I joined an app/program takes out all the guess work, and is ready with an alarm each morning. Drinking more water, because I simply forget throughout the day, is another, so I purchased a 1 L water bottle. I only have to fill up twice, and I know I met my water intake goal for the day, no more counting and guessing! Time management is something I’ve never excelled at, so I purchased an hourly planner, to stay on track and break down each day and set a schedule. Organization was what I lived by in college, and post-kids it’s hard to come by, so decluttering is key to begin reorganizing everything from my closet to cabinets. I’m Marie Kondo-ing our house right now. Her IG is goals. I’m excited to share everything with you along the way, and have the time to share what I love, and what works (the reason I started my blog!) Here’s to an even better year, thanks for following along!

Second Trimester Essentials

Second Trimester Essentials | TheSubtleStatement.com

I’m a couple weeks into my second trimester, and I’ve gained back so much energy, and have been feeling great! My appetite has been in overdrive, but I’ve been working out three days per week, which feels amazing!

  1. Maternity Tanks – These tanks are super comfy, and so versatile. I’ve paired them everything from plaid flannels to cozy knit dusters. They’re great basics for layering.

2. BumpNest Pillow – As my second trimester approached, sleep was getting more and more uncomfortable. Between trying to get comfy with 7 pillows to support my neck, bump, knees and feet, and getting up to pee once per hour, I knew I had to find a pregnancy pillow. The amount shapes and styles is overwhelming. So I started with the only one I found in store, The Boppy Custom Fit Total Body Pillow. I know people that love it, but it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t fluffy enough, and lacked neck and back support I needed, and the velcro was loud when I turned in the night. Next, I ordered the Snoogle. It was great compared to the Boppy, giving back and bump support, but I constantly found myself waking up on my back throughout the night, because of the design, and it was very firm. Third times a charm! I ordered the BumpNest Pillow. Finally, a pillow that supports my bump, back, neck, knees and feet, and is extremely soft and comfortable. I stay sleeping on my side all night, also. If you’re having trouble sleeping, a pregnancy pillow is worth every penny!

3. Lip Balm – My lips seem to be dry all of the time. I love Honest’s all natural lip balms. They’re silky and smell amazing.

4. Pregnancy Journal –  A friend gifted me a pregnancy journal, right after we found out I was pregnant. I love keeping track of such a special time in my life.

5. Slippers – Slipping into a cozy pair of slippers on days where my feet are aching, by the end of the day feels amazing. These ones are my favorite.

6. Hand Sanitizer – Being pregnant and sick is no fun. I love this chemical-free hand sanitizer, that’s also toddler-friendly.

7. Active Maternity Series on Beachbody on Demand – Second Trimester: Get Strong  At my first doctor’s appointment, I asked if there were any exercises I shouldn’t be doing, and my doctor responded jumping jacks, plyometrics or using a treadmill. There are jumping jacks in the second trimester workout, but I just modify them. It’s great to have a workout designed with safe exercises to stay fit, and help get prepared for labor, and are less than 25 minutes! If you’re interested in the workout email me at fashionmeetsfit@gmail.com [*Consult with your doctor before beginning any type of fitness program.]

8. Maternity Denim – I was surprised to find how in love with maternity denim I would be! From a perfect skinny fit, to cute distressed styles and washes, this brand is my favorite, I have 4 different variations.

Healthy Jambalaya

Healthy Jambayla | TheSubtleStatement.com | #21dayfix #vegan #glutenfree

I’ve been expanding our usual eats, with some creative swaps and cuisines lately, and putting a healthy spin on them. This recipe was delicious, and one of my hubby’s faves. It can be made vegan or non-vegan. I made both and just added the preferred meat to the individual dish. Mostly a one-pot meal with the addition of the meat on the side. It has the perfect amount of kick, without being too spicy. If you’re following the 21 Day Fix meal plan, the healthy swaps fit right in.

What’s in your gym bag? These are some of my essentials (I haven’t upgraded to the Fitbit yet, I use this.) I swear I get more use out of my Lululemon clothes than anything else I own, so it’s always worth the investment (once you’ve tried, you’ll never go back!) In search of an organized gym bag, this one looks like the perfect fit. I can’t get enough Manduka gym towels and Sparkly Soul headbands (they’re super cute & stay put!) What are some of your essentials?

Friday Finds

Friday Finds {The Subtle Statement}

  1. Vday Mani. I’m obsessed with this power duo by my fave 3-free polish, butter LONDON.
  2. Oscar Blandi ‘Post Workout Essentials’ Kit. What’s worse than a bad hair day? Gym hair. This kit is meant to do the trick to savor that blowout just one more day.
  3. Champagne Ice Cubes. …Tip* Keep in the freezer for impromptu mimosas.
  4. Freeze Your Jeans. I came across this alternative tip from on Madewell’s Tumblr page.

“Shh…a jean secret our denim team swears by:

Though it may sound strange, we say don’t wash your jeans. What to do instead? Pack them in a plastic bag and freeze them for a day or two. All unsavory elements will disappear—and your beloved blues won’t have faded or shrunk in the process (like they would in the wash!).”
