I literally swooned when I spotted this cake stand. What a perfect display for a statement necklace.

I have a major weakness for pretty packaging. I love these fun, bold hued tags.

pastel nails

A pastel appropriate manicure.

I can’t even begin to express to you my obsession with TJ Maxx. It started as a child, I have always had an eye for unique finds, and there is no better to explore. Carrying a selection of all my favorite things fashion, baking accessories, and home decor, it will always be my fave one-stop shop. With the exception of the pastel mani, all photos were finds from a recent trip this week.

Plaid & Polkadots

Plaid & Polkadots

It may not feel like the Holiday season just yet (today it was almost 70 degrees!) But lately, I’ve found myself leaning towards cozy plaids, and statement metallics. (oh and a festive red lip!.. love Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous in Inimitable)

Blazer: Michael Kors (similar)  /  Top: J.Crew Crewcuts  /  Pants: Target  /  Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini via TJ Maxx  /  Necklace: ILY Couture  /  Ring: JewelMint  /  Nails: Julep Alma (Trina Turk Fall 2012 Collection)

It was *love at first sight* when I spotted these sparkly pumps adorned with bows. They are the epitome of glam. It’s safe to say this statement shoe will add sparkle to any ensemble.

TIP: Don’t limit yourself to Women’s sizes. J.Crew Crewcuts boys clothes sometimes have a better fit than Women’s when it comes to button-front tops! Added bonus: the price tag is usually significant lower, also!

Fall Staples

Jacket: Gap (similar)  /  Sweater: Hive & Honey  /  Denim: J Brand /  Knit Socks: Forever 21  /  Boots:  DV Dolce Vita  /  Handbag: Louis Vuitton  /  Rings: David Yurman & Vintage  /  Watch: Michael Kors  /  Nails: Julep Alma (Trina Turk Fall 2012 Collection)

These boots were a TJ Maxx find. I’ve worn them all Summer, and they’ve been my go-to shoe this Fall. They’re a year-round staple in my closet. I’m such an ankle boots girl. I have so many similar pairs, but these are my favorite. I love the ankle length height.

This jacket was a steal on the clearance rack at Gap. I spotted the find this Spring, for $35 down from it’s $170 price tag. The removable faux fur lining & collar make this jacket so versatile.

Ocean Blues

Thinking of everyone in the NYC area that’s been affected by this horrible storm! Thankful for the amazing people who helped. Hope that everyone is safe! xo

I flew back to Pittsburgh last night, but today’s post is yesterday’s outfit in the Florida sun. My attempt at packing light worked well aside from the fact that I somehow snuck 9 pairs of shoes in my suitcase. (Maybe next time?) I packed one statement necklace that’ s versatility spanned from yesterday’s black & white polka dot popover shirt to dinner with this Vince LBD and nude pumps.

Right on Track

Before I left for NYC I had some of my personal style photos taken. At the time, the weather was scorching. The amazing thing about a leather sheath is the versatility. The dress is great for summer, and layered for Fall and Winter, paired with tights and booties. I went a polished route when I wore the leather sheath to the IFB Conference. A pair of ankle boots transforms the look for a casual, edgy feel.

DIY: Candy Buffet

The latest in party couture is upgrading your traditional dessert table to a sweet-tooth indulged dream. Candy buffets are a conversation piece for any party, where you can let your creativity run free. I recently styled a “Sweet Treat” themed graduation party, from the candy buffet to the centerpieces. These tips are great for creating a fabulous candy buffet to suit any party or event.

20120705-103516.jpg

Keep a consistent color theme. Decide on the theme colors for your party and stay within those colors for a cohesive aesthetic. Here, the theme colors were red, white and black, and we chose silver for an accent color.

20120705-103630.jpgChoose a main focus for your table. The two-tired cake stands with marshmallow pops is the center focus for this table. You can choose to mirror your table for a cohesive look (like this one), or if you are working with only a few items, you can create an abstract display. Create a diagram beforehand deciding where each jar and cake stand will go and which items will go in them, so you aren’t short jars or stands.

Create a banner or confetti garland in the coordinating colors of your theme for added decor. There are endless opportunities for backdrops that can be created on the wall behind the table, if the venue permits it.

20120705-103705.jpgCreate different levels of height. I took two styrofoam boards, hot glued them together, and covered them in the same silk white fabric I used for the tablecloth. I took an additional piece of styrofoam and covered it in a coordinating printed fabric and placed it on top. This gave the back row height. Stacking cake stands is another way to create different levels of height.

Create coordinating tags yourself on your computer to label each item. Choose a font that coordinates with the style of your theme. Choose coordinating ribbons to decorate the jars and cake stands.

Get creative! Explore your favorite Pinterest boards and party blogs to find unique treats that you can DIY. Everything here were DIY projects found on Pinterest. Create your own Pinterest board (like the one I did for this party) or mood board for your party to keep your ideas organized. Planning and organization play a large role in the execution of your candy buffet.

20120705-112335.jpgThis graduation was themed, “Sweet Treats,” so we incorporated the candy items into the centerpieces, as well.

Choose candy you will be using to go along with your theme colors. Candy Warehouse conveniently lets you browse candy by color.

Tj Maxx HomeGoods is a great place to find apothecary jars and cake stands of all shapes and sizes, all at very affordable prices!
