Hudson’s Hocus Pocus Halloween Party

Hocus Pocus was my favorite movie growing up, paired with a passion for playing dress up, which led to a fashion degree, it was inevitable that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I even celebrated my birthday a month early one year as a little girl so I could have a Halloween theme and everyone could dress up! So when Hudson got an invite to a Halloween Party last week, we couldn’t be more excited! I made him a Woody costume, (he’s going as Buzz Lightyear for Trick or Treat!), and we baked his favorite chocolate chip cookies. He ended up coming down with a cold virus and pink eye, and missed the party, so we made the most of the situation and decided to throw a party at our house this past weekend!

My best friends and I all have kids around the same age, and we usually get them together once a week for play dates so they’ve grown to become best friends.

I asked Hudson which movie he wanted to play at his party, suggesting a few toddler-friendly movies, and he replied, “Can we watch Hocus Pocus? I just love it!” How cute is that? We enjoyed cider, PSLs and yummy comfort food, a chili bar, veggies and desserts.

The kids decorated pumpkin shaped cookies, which also served as dessert!

Pumpkin painting was next. It was so much fun watching how they each chose to paint and decorate their pumpkins!

Hudson made a clown pumpkin!

They each dressed up in fun little costumes! Hudson was so excited to be Woody. I included him in each step of the design process, so he couldn’t wait to wear the full costume!

The kids had so much fun, this may turn into our annual party! Do you have any fun Halloween traditions?

Strawberry Mint Lemonade

Fresh flowers and warm sunny days should only be accompanied by light refreshing beverages. Water and tea are my usual vices, but since stumbling upon a light organic lemonade (stevia based, instead of sugar) it’s been a nice occasional change. I’m not a fan of syrups or anything artificial, so for our first cookout/bonfire last weekend, I poured a pitcher of the light lemonade and placed fresh strawberries and mint in the attached infuser. After infusing for a few hours, it had a perfect slightly sweet refreshing taste. Slice up strawberries and mint for garnish and it makes a great party refresher.

Gluten Free Blueberry Mini Loaves

Gluten Free Vegan Blueberry Mini Loaves

For a sweet fix in the midst of our weekend projects, I used up the fresh blueberries I had on hand to make muffins. I came across a recipe that was vegan and gluten free (We’ve also tried her belgium waffles, they’re so yummy!) I switched up a few things, like substituting Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour for the flour blend, and organic brown sugar instead of white sugar. I also sprinkled a little brown sugar on top before I stuck them in the oven, as well as the last 2 minutes they were baking.

Covering the blueberries (fresh or frozen) in 1 T of the flour blend was a great tip in the recipe, preventing any juice and color from entering the batter.

I used mini loaf pans, which are great for a brunch and for gifting. Gluten Free Vegan Blueberry Mini Loaves

They turned so delicious! This will definitely be a brunch staple for upcoming weekends.

DIY: Ghouls Night Out

What’s better than a relaxing night of crafting, cocktails and yummy treats (oh and dressing up too!)

Create a Fab Invite. Or customize this one from my Etsy Shop.

Create a Signature Cocktail, or Two. I chose a Bloody Float (so delicious!) and a Whipped Caramel Apple Cider Martini (Apple Cider + Whipped Vodka + Caramel Vodka)

Add Chic Decor. I found such fun decorations like glitter skulls, “Poison” Mercury jars, and spider web cake stands at Home Goods. Festive lights and rustic tablecloths were scooped up at a local Halloween store. Chic glasses, straws and coasters were fab finds from Target.

“Boo”rito Bar. Display a spread of endless options to create a burrito, bowl or salad. Chicken, black beans, fajita vegetables, cilantro lime rice, roasted tomato salsa, tomatillo-green chili salsa, tomatillo-red chili salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and tortillas are all possible options. Make your own or order from your favorite burrito joint.

Caramel Apple Dipping Station. Slice apples, and place on skewers. Heat caramel in a candy melter, and create an array of topping choices in easily accessible ramekins.

Festive Desserts. Homemade Apple Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Squares were displayed on fun cake stands.

Pumpkin Painting Station. For a change from carving, display an array of paints, glitter, rhinestones, jewels, and ribbon. Everyone grabbed a brush and personalized their own pumpkin to take home.

Moonlit Mani’s. Create a manicure station with festive colors and glitter.

Dress up. Or tell everyone to bring a fun accessory, such as a witch hat, cat ears or goddess wreath.

Party Favors. These theme coordinated favors were whipped up in minutes.  Festive Halloween cupcake wrappers and sprinkles filled mason jars, tied with color coordinating twine.

A citrusy sangria with an island twist was the perfect way to kick off a Summer party. My goal was to find a healthier version, so I was so happy to discover Oh She Glow’s Sunny White Sangria. It definitely fit the bill! Mason jars, paper straws, and DIY labels add a festive finishing touch.

Chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours prior to serving (I chilled mine overnight.) Before serving, you may add some club soda & ice if desired. Taste again and add more sweetener if necessary.
