The countdown is on to meet our sweet baby boy! I’m gravitating towards basic tees, comfy lightweight cardigans, and my favorite maternity denim and ankle boots (even though they’re becoming a little more difficult to zip on and off! haha)

My favorite weekend breakfast, vegan sausage patties, gluten free cinnamon raisin toast and fresh fruit. When in need of a caffeine fix, this Black & White Cold Brew with Almond Milk is pretty yummy!

Third Trimester Essentials

Third-Trimester-Essentails

I’m more than half way through my third trimester, and so ready for our baby boy to be here! These are some products along with my key essentials like my pregnancy pillow, belly butter & maternity denim that have been beneficial.

25 oz Water Bottle – I love this chic water bottle. It doesn’t sweat, so I can throw it in my purse and it’s handy throughout the day. It keeps cold drinks cold for 24 hours, and hot drinks hot for 12. Bonus: It’s stroller & car cup holder friendly

Third Trimester Tea – This flavorful tea helps your body prep for labor. Ingredients like Red Raspberry Leaf, Chamomile and Rosehips make it a calming drink before bed

Organic Body Lotion – While I continue to use my favorite belly butter religiously, I love this inexpensive organic body lotion for everyday use. It’s really hydrating, dries quickly, and I love the subtle Sweet Orange Vanilla scent

Slip on Sneaks – It’s starting to feel like Spring, these slip on sneakers are super comfy and extremely versatile

Healthy Snacks – I like to keep hummus and fresh cut veggies in the fridge for a midday snack, because I tend to get nauseous or light-headed at times. Another favorite is Skinny Pop mixed with coconut oil spray and Nutritional Yeast, and shaken well. It has a cheesy flavor, and full of vitamins (B12 in particular)

Nursing Nightgown – Comfy nightgowns are the ultimate sleep go-to. Nursing options mean I can wear them long after my pregnancy

Zantac – I’ve learned what foods to avoid that trigger acid reflux and heartburn, but when when it still occurs, my doctor recommended Zantac. I keep it in my handbag, and it ‘s always helpful

Extending your Wardrobe: Maternity Style

The thought of maternity clothes made me a little nervous at the beginning of my pregnancy. I didn’t want to lose my personal style and at the same time didn’t want to invest in an entire wardrobe that I would only wear for a short period of time.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that maternity denim (this brand in particular) can be super cute, well fitted, and trendy. Invest. This is something that is so worth the investment. When I was ready to transition into maternity jeans, I tried a belly band first, and the constant adjusting was uncomfortable. You need to feel comfortable, and that can easily be achieved, while looking put together, also. I invested in a dark wash, a medium wash, a distressed light wash and distressed black denim. Maternity leggings are great for oversized sweaters and tunics.

Maternity tops are another story. I am not a fan of the cliche maternity top. The button down front and tie around your bump is not my style. I quickly found a way around that, without having to invest in an entire maternity wardrobe. Basics like cotton maternity tanks and tees are the ultimate staple. I invested in all neutral colors (blacks, whites, greys, navy) and purchased two of each color. These basics make is so easy to pair my normal non-maternity clothing into my everyday looks. I can slip on a fitted plaid button down with a maternity tank and add a scarf and ankle boots to complete the look. All of my cozy long knit cardigans fit my growing bump with a maternity tee underneath. A statement necklace and over the knee boot can dress it up. Ponchos are the ultimate must have, no matter what stage of my pregnancy they are the perfect throw on item to feel cozy and look chic.

Jackets are another great way to extend your wardrobe. From leather to denim and utility jackets in between, they can be paired with a maternity tank, tee or are great over a fitted cotton maternity dress with ankle boots.

Pairing maternity basics with non-maternity clothing you already have in your closet, let’s you stay true to your personal style, and feel most comfortable in the style your own style, while your body is constantly changing.

I did come across a few really cute maternity tops with a great fit and modern spin. I also purchased a few non-maternity items, a couple of sweaters, blouses and a winter coat,  and just sized up one from my pre-pregnancy size.

Second Trimester Essentials

I’m a couple weeks into my second trimester, and I’ve gained back so much energy, and have been feeling great! My appetite has been in overdrive, but I’ve been working out three days per week, which feels amazing!

  1. Maternity Tanks – These tanks are super comfy, and so versatile. I’ve paired them everything from plaid flannels to cozy knit dusters. They’re great basics for layering.

2. BumpNest Pillow – As my second trimester approached, sleep was getting more and more uncomfortable. Between trying to get comfy with 7 pillows to support my neck, bump, knees and feet, and getting up to pee once per hour, I knew I had to find a pregnancy pillow. The amount shapes and styles is overwhelming. So I started with the only one I found in store, The Boppy Custom Fit Total Body Pillow. I know people that love it, but it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t fluffy enough, and lacked neck and back support I needed, and the velcro was loud when I turned in the night. Next, I ordered the Snoogle. It was great compared to the Boppy, giving back and bump support, but I constantly found myself waking up on my back throughout the night, because of the design, and it was very firm. Third times a charm! I ordered the BumpNest Pillow. Finally, a pillow that supports my bump, back, neck, knees and feet, and is extremely soft and comfortable. I stay sleeping on my side all night, also. If you’re having trouble sleeping, a pregnancy pillow is worth every penny!

3. Lip Balm – My lips seem to be dry all of the time. I love Honest’s all natural lip balms. They’re silky and smell amazing.

4. Pregnancy Journal –  A friend gifted me a pregnancy journal, right after we found out I was pregnant. I love keeping track of such a special time in my life.

5. Slippers – Slipping into a cozy pair of slippers on days where my feet are aching, by the end of the day feels amazing. These ones are my favorite.

6. Hand Sanitizer – Being pregnant and sick is no fun. I love this chemical-free hand sanitizer, that’s also toddler-friendly.

7. Active Maternity Series on Beachbody on Demand – Second Trimester: Get Strong  At my first doctor’s appointment, I asked if there were any exercises I shouldn’t be doing, and my doctor responded jumping jacks, plyometrics or using a treadmill. There are jumping jacks in the second trimester workout, but I just modify them. It’s great to have a workout designed with safe exercises to stay fit, and help get prepared for labor, and are less than 25 minutes! 8. Maternity Denim – I was surprised to find how in love with maternity denim I would be! From a perfect skinny fit, to cute distressed styles and washes, this brand is my favorite, I have 4 different variations.
