Empire State of Mind

My 7am arrival, left me with an entire day to get lost in the city. There’s an energy in New York City like no other, and I love getting wrapped up in it. The glitter drenched sneaks I bought at Kate Spade this week not only came through with receiving endless compliments, but after about 5 miles of exploring on day 1, my feet were in tip top shape, sans blisters! That is unheard of for roaming the New York streets. I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a fabulous statement shoe, that exudes comfort! I ventured over to Le Pain Quotidien for a tumeric chai latte, followed by a stroll through Central Park, because there’s nothing quite like it during the Fall months.

After coming across the Jin Soon Spa in numerous glossy reads as being a top nail salon, known for their nail art, I’ve been itching to go (their instagram feed serves for amazing nail inspiration) Upon arrival, I asked for a gold leaf design, tucked in between layers of CND gel manicure. Bimala intricately placed each piece one by one, and I left with the most fabulous manicure I ever did see.

While in the West Village, I spotted David’s Tea, another spot I’ve been dying to try, because tea obsessed would be an understatement. Overwhelmed upon arrival, (and being the incredibly indecisive person that I am) I didn’t know where to begin, as I smelled and learned about the most popular bunch, my eyes came across the name “Glitter and Gold.” As the employee opened up the canister, I set eyes on the chicest tea I had ever seen, as gold glitter and pearls shimmer throughout the loose tea.  If I could invent a tea, this would surely be my signature. I left with a supply to go, along with the All About Nuts tea, because it literally smelled like a walk in Central Park.

After my glittery tea, a fabulous gold leaf manicure and my sparkly sneaks winning the award for an orthopedic equivalent of comfort, I pretty ecstatic. The little things in life.

I went back to the hotel, got ready and headed out to fabulous pre-fabb events. At the trendy Refinery Hotel, I caught up with Taylor, Shelby, Jackie and Katie over cocktails and the latest crimson lip hues Jane Iredale has to offer. Afterwards we headed over to the Reiki Salon for a Paul Mitchell styling of loose curls.

Nail Caviar

Nail Caviar 11

With one of my biggest beauty faux pas being chipped nails, I’ve been hesitant to try the latest 3D nail trend. After spotting a metallic, pearlized version of the nail art at Urban Outfitters, I couldn’t resist.

Nail Caviar

I opted to make a subtle statement sporting the chic beads on a solo finger. The simple two-step process gives an instantly glam look. After adding two swipes of polish, dip nail into the caviar pot and let dry 15-20 minutes. I added a base coat and top coat to the nails I didn’t dip. I’m obsessed with this chic mani.

Polymer Top Coat

Non-Toxic Gel Top Coat

Basic manicures never seem to last. Gel manicures have long-lasting wear, but since I prefer using non-toxic nail products, something that fit both categories was pretty  impossible to find. I couldn’t be more thrilled to discover a non-toxic polymer top coat in last month’s Julep Maven box.

Pastel Nails Julep Polymer Top Coat

The fast drying top coat gives nails a gel like coating, for the ultimate shine, and long-lasting wear. Waiting for a manicure to dry is something I’m sure anyone would love to eliminate from their beauty routine, and this 4-free top coat dries quickly, without smudging, making it the ultimate manicure must-have.

Friday Finds

Friday Finds {The Subtle Statement}

  1. Vday Mani. I’m obsessed with this power duo by my fave 3-free polish, butter LONDON.
  2. Oscar Blandi ‘Post Workout Essentials’ Kit. What’s worse than a bad hair day? Gym hair. This kit is meant to do the trick to savor that blowout just one more day.
  3. Champagne Ice Cubes. …Tip* Keep in the freezer for impromptu mimosas.
  4. Freeze Your Jeans. I came across this alternative tip from on Madewell’s Tumblr page.

“Shh…a jean secret our denim team swears by:

Though it may sound strange, we say don’t wash your jeans. What to do instead? Pack them in a plastic bag and freeze them for a day or two. All unsavory elements will disappear—and your beloved blues won’t have faded or shrunk in the process (like they would in the wash!).”

Snow Day

Snow Day

Growing up, the best thing about Winter in Pennsylvania was the Snow Days. Sled riding and hot chocolate made up the perfect Winter day. Today marks off the first of ‘snowed in’ Winter days this year. Traveling may not be an option, so here’s a few ideas make the most of being snowed in.

Snow Day -- Chick Flick Marathon

Host a chick flick marathon. Make use of your Netflix subscription, whether it’s classic girly faves or a Ryan Gossling vs. Channing Tatum face-off, it’ll be sure to keep you entertained.

Snow Day -- Do a Face Mask

Get a Winter glow. Face masks are a fixture in my beauty routine. There’s just something therapeutic about them, that I love. Polished supple skin is only a face mask away. If you don’t have a mask on hand, whip up one in the kitchen with one of these homemade recipes. My faves include Mario Basdecu ‘Super Collagen Mask’ & Cucumber Tonic Mask, Philosophy Oxygen Peel, and Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic Mask.

Snow Day reading

Catch up on your reading. I subscribe to an absurd amount of magazines, so getting caught up is sometimes a weekend project. Get the latest on style, beauty news and bikini body moves.

Snow Day -- Glitter Fade Mani

Give yourself a mani. Take the time to master that mani you’ve been eyeing on Pinterest. I’ve been a huge fan of the glitter fade, and New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to sport it!

snow day baking -- vegan gluten-free brownies

Try a new recipe. I’ll admit, I’m a little Christmas cookie baked out, but now is the time for all of the those tdf recipes on my Pinterest board, or a warm Winter soup. (Vegan, gluten-free brownies pictured.)

snow day

Play in the snow. Skiing, tubing, or a snowball fight.

snow day -- hot chocolate bar

Create a hot chocolate bar to enjoy after. Add marshmallows, peppermint candies, chocolate, cookie sticks, etc.

Friday Finds {My Favorites Things of Fall}

November weather has me cozying up to oversized knits (particularly this sweater coat that I’ve been living in.), hot cups of tea, and a good read. Very Cameron Diaz-ish in The Holiday. (Cozy socks & all.)

How cozy is this scarf?

My cozy spot for reading & blogging.
I just can’t get enough of layering during the Fall and Winter months, so I’m constantly adding to my scarf collection.

Pumpkin Spice Tea. Almond milk and stevia complete this festive tea latte.
I’m in love with bow detail. This sweet little bracelet makes for chic Holiday arm candy. (A Kate Spade find at TJ Maxx, $29 originally $78!)
I’m all about subtle hints of sparkle. A great greige, Julep’s Sophie from the Trina Turk Fall 2012 Collection, and Butter London’s West End Wonderland.  I truly think West End Wonderland may be the prettiest polish I ever did see. I’ve declared it my Holiday go-to.

What are your must-haves and favorite things of Fall?

Julep Maven

I’m really particular in making sure the foods I eat are as toxic-free as possible, but I’ve never really put much thought into the toxins that may be lurking in my nail polish. In need of a polish change, I browsed through my polishes to see which ones were toxic-free. Butter London has always been known as a 3-Free brand, so I was glad that the brand was my latest haul of shimmery holiday shades. I’ve been wanting to try out the Julep polish trio I received from the Lucky FABB conference. To my surprise, the brand is a “four-free” formulation,  free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, and formaldehyde resin. Each of the colors I received are apart of the Trina Turk Fall 2012 Collection. A classic red, a chartreuse and my all-time fave polish color, a trendy griege. Since I wear the other two pretty often, I decided to opt for the unique chartreuse hue. I applied one coat, and … done. It applied evenly, without any sheer spots and was fast-drying. I instantly became a fan.

I decided to join Julep’s Maven program to receive my selection of the brand’s trendy new nail colors and products monthly. It’s the perfect treat for any nail polish junkie, and it serves as a fun and unique gift! Can you believe Christmas is already next month?! Get your shop on 🙂 To get your first Maven box for just a penny, Use code: COLOR2012 with this link. I’ll be sharing each box I receive every month. This month, I choose the American Beauty Intro Box, which comes with a classic nude, a metallic gunmetal and an essential cuticle oil.
