My Go-To Cold Weather Skincare Products

Once cold temps hit, I love layering in cozy knits, fuzzy boots and cute hats. The downside of sporting my favorite Fall finds comes along with dull skin. Sharing my favorite ways to stay moisturized and combat dryness from your lips to your toes!

This lip mask is heaven. I put it on before bed, and wipe it off in the morning for perfectly smooth and moisturized lips!

I’m always looking for a good eye cream to battle fine lines. This one is silky, lightweight and allows for seamless makeup application.

This face oil plumps and adds a healthy glow to all skin types, as well as brightening discoloration. Tip: I use it on my cuticles also!

I’ve raved about body brushes in numerous posts, but it’s my favorite way to exfoliate dead skin cells, and boost lymphatic drainage before hopping in the shower. It also promotes collagen production and reduces cellulite!

This razor has been a total game changer. It gives the closest shave, which exfoliates, and takes out the guesswork by arriving at your door step each month. I even got Josh on the band wagon. Not to mention, they’re super inexpensive, compared to most brands! I’m loving their clean body lotion and shave cream, as well!

This body oil provides nourishing hydration without a greasy residue, and even diminishes scarring and stretch marks!

For a healthy golden glow year round, I use this self-tanner almost weekly. This mitt gives an effortless application.

Staying hydrated is a also a huge factor in battling dryness, as well!

Playhouse Makeover

Every time I see a fixer upper, i envision all the little tweaks i would love to do to update it. When I saw a local playhouse for sale, I immediately saw a modern little farmhouse for Hudson to play in. I snatched it up and Josh and I went to work!

The Process

First, we took the playhouse apart. We then drilled drain holes in the bottom of the pieces since we knew we would be power washing it and we didn’t want to get any water stuck inside.

We then power washed and scrubbed it.

After drying, we spray painted each piece. We added an additional coat to each, then finished with a clear top coat spray.

The only pieces that could not be removed were the shutters, so I wrapped the walls in plastic wrap, and using painters tape to secure it, while I spray painted it.

I purchased solar lights, a bell and mat. After drying, we drilled in the lights and bell, and I added topiaries. Hudson loves it! The neutral colors make it easy for us to decorate each season!

How I Organize Toddler Snacks

I have always loved organization, but when it comes to small spaces, it can get tricky! My solution to everything is using baskets or bins, you can never have enough! Without a pantry, snacks can easily get messy, and unseen. I love having a system to keep them organized, so I know what we have, and makes an easy grab and go solution! It also makes it convenient while I’m at work, so Hudson’s snacks are all in one spot and are easily accessible. I buy baskets 10″ long, that fit perfectly in my cabinets. These are great, too!

I purchase his snacks in bulk, it’s cheaper and keeps us fully stocked! These are some of our favorites here, here and here.

For items in bigger boxes, I transfer them into baggies with the name and date and stick them in a basket, to eliminate unnecessary space.

In the fridge, I use fridge organizers for his yogurt, and juice boxes. If we have plans to leave, I’ll cut up an apple ahead of time and stick it in a bag with cheese and crackers for a healthy snack pack!

I love using reusable bags for snacks also! They’re washable, and I can throw them in my bag. I’d love to hear your favorite organization hacks!

Have a great week! xo Brittany

Dewy Summer Beauty

Dewy Summer Beauty - TheSubtleStatement.com

When It comes to summer beauty, I go for lightweight simplicity, with a touch of dewiness. This shimmery based primer, gives my skin the perfect subtle glow underneath my foundation, and this lightweight spray foundation is perfect for a simply flawless look. The key is to spray foundation onto an airbrush style makeup brush, and then apply to face in circular motions, so you don’t overuse the foundation, or look “too done up.” This has been my go-to concealer for years. I apply it underneath my eyes in an upside down triangle. It blends most naturally by patting the under eye area with a beautyblender.

In search of the perfect blush and lipgloss for my wedding, I came across this pair. The dual-intensity blush is perfect for taking your look from day to night, going super subtle or making a statement. This blush brush can be used wet for more intensity for dry for minimal color. The lipgloss is the perfect amount of pop, and my favorite lip plumper & glossy stain is essential.

The Brow Down

Brow Down - Favorite Brow Products - TheSubtleStatement.com

If there’s one makeup item I would choose to have over any others before leaving the house, it’s a brow product. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good mascara, but I have pretty naturally long lashes on my own. If I don’t have my brows filled in (in the parts I am still trying to grow out) I feel naked.

Until a couple years ago, I never filled my brows in at all, and looking back pictures, it makes the biggest difference. I wish I would’ve started much sooner. After a good almost 12 years of growing my brows back in after a bad pencil thin waxing experience, I’m almost fully there. The brow tools aid in the extra help I need for any sparse spots, and keep them shaped and clean.

Benefit Brow Zings (in light) is my favorite brow product. Most days this is the only one I use. The hard angle brush and powder are the perfect tools to give your brows a polished shape. The wax and blending brush fill in any sparse spots, and blend the two products together well.

Benefit Gimme Brow (in light/medium) is a great product to subtly fill in your brows, and make them appear fuller, as well as work as a brow gel to keep them in tact.

Anastasia Brow Wiz (in taupe) is a great tool to quickly pencil in or shape your brows, or use along with Benefit Gimme Brow. The retractable ultra fine tip prevents looking too “pencilly” or thick.

Weekend DIY: Fix a Broken Compact

Weekend DIY: Fix a Broken Compact | TheSubtleStatement.com

Last year a trip to the beauty department at Saks, left me with an obsessed with Armani Beauty. I came home with the serum, primer, foundation, powder, bronzer, blush, etc. (the whole shebang) and I’ve been loyal to every product ever since. Last month when I was traveling from LA, my new bronzer took a tumble and shattered. Determined to make it as good as new, I searched Youtube for tutorials.

Weekend DIY: Housewarming Gift

DIY Housewarming Gift

If you opened a storage closet, you would find a vast amount of apothecary jars. I love to use them to display goodies for parties, decor for holidays or use them for simple storage solutions (statement necklaces, makeup brushes, etc.) I thought it would be the perfect way to display a housewarming gift, because it could be put to use in any kitchen, bathroom or laundry room and can easily fit any style.
I filled this one with decorative hand soap and dish towels. It’s an easy DIY that not only looks great, but most importantly is really useful.

Neapolitan Rose Cake

Neapolitan Rose Cake

I love baking, but I love baking for birthdays even more. I have always loved rose decorated cakes, and decided to try a neapolitan version that I saw on I Am Baker.

Visit I Am Baker for her talented techniques. (A first timer still ranks me amateur status.) I’m hoping to improve, since I plan on making this my Spring celebration staple.. (thinking yellow, pink & purple possibilities!)
