How are you spending your snowed in weekend?

Weekend Links

  1. This homemade “chicken” soup is essential this weekend, while I’m feeling under the weather. I switched up this recipe a little by adding gluten free noodles and vegan chicken. It can easily be swamped with  chicken, for a non-vegan version.

2. Get a start on your Holiday shopping, while staying warm and cozy. Enjoy 25% off your entire purchase at Kate Spade and Saks.  Kate Spade code: INDULGE   |  Saks code: THANKYOU

3. Looking for Fall inspo? Check out the tablescapes, decor and recipes that have me inspired.

4. Pregnancy has my skin totally out of whack. This mask is one of my go-to’s and so is the cleansing sponge. Definitely trying out this detoxifying cleanser, in this perfectly poreless trio, this weekend.

5. I’m all about cozy cardigans and ponchos right now. All full price apparel is 20% off. Code: FALLFUN

What you need:

Upholstery Fabric

Heavy Duty Staple Gun

Heavy Duty Staples

Decorative Nailheads

Hammer

Scissors

I covered old cornices that we already had instead of buying or creating new ones. My overall vision was during a textured grey cornice, tufting it with nickel nailheads, and adding textured drapes in a contrasting color, to give it depth, instead of trying to make it “matchy.” Tufted Cornice DIY - TheSubtleStatement.com #homedecor #diyMeasure the width of your cornice, including each of the sides and add at least 2″ to each side to staple, and determine the amount of yards of fabric you will need. Cover your cornice with the fabric, pulling it tight as you go, and stapling it along the edge to secure it.

Next, measure a straight line around your cornice, making a square, of where you will apply your nailhead trim. Carefully, place the nails and hammer in to secure. Tufted Cornice DIY - TheSubtleStatement.com #homedecor #diy

I bought a basic curtain rod and we installed it underneath the cornice and added contrasting textured curtains.

Weekend DIY: Farmhouse Coffee Table

DIY: Farmhouse Coffee Table | TheSubtleStatement.com

When deciding which style direction to take our living room, my boyfriend and I thought of all the possibilities, from contemporary glam to traditional and rustic. We knew we wanted something unique, and a combination of both of our styles. After a trip to Restoration Hardware, we fell in love with the uniqueness of rustic farmhouse tables placed in a contemporary room.

We found a basic white table at ikea, bought pine wood boards, and stained them, then fit and drilled them on top to the top of it, and under just a few hours, we had a new coffee table, along with two matching end tables totaling less than $115.

Adding serene candles, fresh florals, and a personal touch really pulled everything together, along with comfy throw pillows, into a cozy, homey living area that fits us perfectly.

Step by Step Instructions:

  1. We purchased a basic coffee table, along with two side tables.
  2. Keeping our table measurements in mind, we went to our local home improvement store, and purchased 1″ x 6″ x 6′ pine boards (9 boards fit all three of our tables.)
  3. We cut the boards to fit each table and allow a 1/4″ overhang on each side of each table.
  4. Next we stained each side of each wood board with Rust-Oleum Wood Stain in Weathered Gray. (You can use any stain and color you prefer.)
  5. After the wood boards were dry, we applied Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive to the back of the boards, and placed them on the tables.
  6. We then used 2″ wood screws to secure the boards to the tables.
  7. Lastly, we applied a polyurethane in a clear satin finish to repel stains and moisture.

DIY: Ghouls Night Out

What’s better than a relaxing night of crafting, cocktails and yummy treats (oh and dressing up too!)

Create a Fab Invite. Or customize this one from my Etsy Shop.

Create a Signature Cocktail, or Two. I chose a Bloody Float (so delicious!) and a Whipped Caramel Apple Cider Martini (Apple Cider + Whipped Vodka + Caramel Vodka)

Add Chic Decor. I found such fun decorations like glitter skulls, “Poison” Mercury jars, and spider web cake stands at Home Goods. Festive lights and rustic tablecloths were scooped up at a local Halloween store. Chic glasses, straws and coasters were fab finds from Target.

“Boo”rito Bar. Display a spread of endless options to create a burrito, bowl or salad. Chicken, black beans, fajita vegetables, cilantro lime rice, roasted tomato salsa, tomatillo-green chili salsa, tomatillo-red chili salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and tortillas are all possible options. Make your own or order from your favorite burrito joint.

Caramel Apple Dipping Station. Slice apples, and place on skewers. Heat caramel in a candy melter, and create an array of topping choices in easily accessible ramekins.

Festive Desserts. Homemade Apple Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Squares were displayed on fun cake stands.

Pumpkin Painting Station. For a change from carving, display an array of paints, glitter, rhinestones, jewels, and ribbon. Everyone grabbed a brush and personalized their own pumpkin to take home.

Moonlit Mani’s. Create a manicure station with festive colors and glitter.

Dress up. Or tell everyone to bring a fun accessory, such as a witch hat, cat ears or goddess wreath.

Party Favors. These theme coordinated favors were whipped up in minutes.  Festive Halloween cupcake wrappers and sprinkles filled mason jars, tied with color coordinating twine.

Weekend DIY: Instant Update {Bath}

I‘m always acquiring bathroom decor with a Parisian feel. I don’t have a large amount of counter space, so a decorative cake stand is the perfect fit to keep organized.

A sweet smelling candle, body brush and bath salts are fun spa-like essentials with a decorative look. Only a few key items make a chic statement.

Coordinate using a color scheme or theme to fit your bathroom style, and give it a personal touch.

Fabulously Frugal: Home Decor

1/2/3

Interior design is just one of my many creative interests. I have acquired a collection of decorating books that serve as many forms of inspiration. My fascination with the subject falls heavily on bringing new life to old items, through DIY projects. These three books showcase exactly that, in an incredibly chic and fabulous way.
