Holiday Beauty Drugstore Beauty Haul

drugstore beauty buys

Polish / Mascara / Liquid Eye Liner / High Definition Undereye Setting Powder / Mascara & Shadow Shield

I couldn’t be more impressed with my latest drugstore beauty haul. Pregnancy makes my already fast growing nails, grow 10x faster. Painting my nails is the best option for me, since they grow out so quickly. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure has been a game changer. It applies better than any polish (at any price range) I have ever tried, and gives the look of a gel manicure. It pairs perfectly with my go-to top coat for speed drying and full shine.

The e.l.f. High Definition Undereye Setting Powder takes my favorite concealer to the next level, by keeping it in tact all day and adding a velvety finish that helps camouflage fine lines and dark circles. I’ve been extremely surprised by how amazing this product is, especially for a $3 price tag.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Carbon Black and L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black, makes a bold statement for any holiday eye look. From a statement cat eye, to a smoky eye, to a metallic sheen, each product in Carbon Black really makes lashes and eyes pop!

I came across this super convenient tool, when doing my mascara and shadow in a pinch. The e.l.f. Studio Mascara and Shadow Shield is great for avoiding mascara on your lid, and undereye, as well as accumulating shadow under your eye when applying. Another $3 find.

Vegan Thanksgiving Dishes

I usually make a couple vegan dishes for Thanksgiving, but ironically this is the first year I’m actually making Thanksgiving-inspired dishes, instead of my usual go-to’s. I’ve rounded up some yummy recipes, that I can’t wait to try next week. All recipes are vegan & gluten free. What are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes?

The Best Banana Bread

TheSubtleStatement.com | Best Banana Bread | vegan gluten free

I’ve been making this insanely delicious banana bread since college. I adapted the recipe from this cookbook, and swapped some of the ingredients to make it gluten-free. Even though it’s vegan, people still rave about it being the best banana bread they’ve ever had. It’s a must try for Sunday morning!

**Update replace, 1 cup mashed banana with 3 overripe medium organic bananas for best consistency **

Beauty Game Changer

L'Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara

I’ve read great things about this mascara for the longest time, and when I ran out of one of my favorites, I decided to give it a try. The only regret I have is not trying this sooner! It’s the best mascara I’ve used, even compared to my usual $30 finds, for under only $8!

After trying out lash extensions for my wedding and honeymoon, I felt like my real lashes were never the same. My full, long lashes weren’t there anymore, even using my favorite mascaras. This mascara brings them back to life. The curved brush version is great too!

Gluten Free Blueberry Mini Loaves

Gluten Free Vegan Blueberry Mini Loaves

For a sweet fix in the midst of our weekend projects, I used up the fresh blueberries I had on hand to make muffins. I came across a recipe that was vegan and gluten free (We’ve also tried her belgium waffles, they’re so yummy!) I switched up a few things, like substituting Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour for the flour blend, and organic brown sugar instead of white sugar. I also sprinkled a little brown sugar on top before I stuck them in the oven, as well as the last 2 minutes they were baking.

Covering the blueberries (fresh or frozen) in 1 T of the flour blend was a great tip in the recipe, preventing any juice and color from entering the batter.

I used mini loaf pans, which are great for a brunch and for gifting. Gluten Free Vegan Blueberry Mini Loaves

They turned so delicious! This will definitely be a brunch staple for upcoming weekends.

Julep Maven

I’m really particular in making sure the foods I eat are as toxic-free as possible, but I’ve never really put much thought into the toxins that may be lurking in my nail polish. In need of a polish change, I browsed through my polishes to see which ones were toxic-free. Butter London has always been known as a 3-Free brand, so I was glad that the brand was my latest haul of shimmery holiday shades. I’ve been wanting to try out the Julep polish trio I received from the Lucky FABB conference. To my surprise, the brand is a “four-free” formulation,  free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, and formaldehyde resin. Each of the colors I received are apart of the Trina Turk Fall 2012 Collection. A classic red, a chartreuse and my all-time fave polish color, a trendy griege. Since I wear the other two pretty often, I decided to opt for the unique chartreuse hue. I applied one coat, and … done. It applied evenly, without any sheer spots and was fast-drying. I instantly became a fan.

I decided to join Julep’s Maven program to receive my selection of the brand’s trendy new nail colors and products monthly. It’s the perfect treat for any nail polish junkie, and it serves as a fun and unique gift! Can you believe Christmas is already next month?! Get your shop on 🙂 To get your first Maven box for just a penny, Use code: COLOR2012 with this link. I’ll be sharing each box I receive every month. This month, I choose the American Beauty Intro Box, which comes with a classic nude, a metallic gunmetal and an essential cuticle oil.

  1. The Best Makeup Brush Cleaner Ever. – I was in search of an innovative way to clean makeup brushes, that even by using department store brush cleaner, won’t come clean. I found this recipe on Pinterest, but I didn’t have tea tree oil, so I changed it around a bit. It makes your makeup brushes look brand new in seconds! Just swirl brush around in the cup with mixed ingredients. Rinse with hot, then cold water, pat dry excess water & let dry brush side up in a cup.
  2. Diptyque ‘Baies’ Scented Candle – This candle is so relaxing and refreshing! It just smells pretty. A new nightstand staple.
  3. ShoeMint Hillary Flats – Pointed toe & a bow are one of my favorite combinations right now! So cute.
  4. Antioxidant Superfood Smoothie – I’m obsessed with making smoothies with my favorite superfoods. Usually my mid-morning pick me up.
  5. Cozy Sleek – Can’t get enough of OP’s urban chic plaid.

Best Dressed: Met Gala

The Costume Institute Gala truly bears it’s name, with full-fledged celeb fashion. Somewhere in between the over-the-top and the just not enough, fell A-list style. Berry lips were the top beauty trend among attendees, and metallic fabrics flourished the red carpet. Jessica Alba’s fabulous goddess glam look takes the cake.

Best Dressed: Spring Trends

At Saturday’s Film Independent Spirit Awards, stars donned all that is hot among Spring trends.

Zoe Saldana rocked a flirty Balmain mini, combining the season’s florals and mixed prints. Steal her style with this adorable find from Miss Sixty.

This isn’t the first time, Elizabeth Olsen has been spotted sporting an all white ensemble this month.  The Antonio Berardi piece makes a statement, looking elegant and chic.

Michelle Williams took a fashion risk in a Louis Vuitton short suit.  Although I admire her confidence, an understated pastel shade from the designer’s SS12 runway would have softened the look and complemented her fair skin tone.

Perfectly accessorized in gold, Kate Beckinsale stunned in a bold magenta Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit. Would you dare to wear this bold jumper from Asos, as a sleek alternative to a skirt or dress?
