Second Trimester Essentials

I’m a couple weeks into my second trimester, and I’ve gained back so much energy, and have been feeling great! My appetite has been in overdrive, but I’ve been working out three days per week, which feels amazing!

  1. Maternity Tanks – These tanks are super comfy, and so versatile. I’ve paired them everything from plaid flannels to cozy knit dusters. They’re great basics for layering.

2. BumpNest Pillow – As my second trimester approached, sleep was getting more and more uncomfortable. Between trying to get comfy with 7 pillows to support my neck, bump, knees and feet, and getting up to pee once per hour, I knew I had to find a pregnancy pillow. The amount shapes and styles is overwhelming. So I started with the only one I found in store, The Boppy Custom Fit Total Body Pillow. I know people that love it, but it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t fluffy enough, and lacked neck and back support I needed, and the velcro was loud when I turned in the night. Next, I ordered the Snoogle. It was great compared to the Boppy, giving back and bump support, but I constantly found myself waking up on my back throughout the night, because of the design, and it was very firm. Third times a charm! I ordered the BumpNest Pillow. Finally, a pillow that supports my bump, back, neck, knees and feet, and is extremely soft and comfortable. I stay sleeping on my side all night, also. If you’re having trouble sleeping, a pregnancy pillow is worth every penny!

3. Lip Balm – My lips seem to be dry all of the time. I love Honest’s all natural lip balms. They’re silky and smell amazing.

4. Pregnancy Journal –  A friend gifted me a pregnancy journal, right after we found out I was pregnant. I love keeping track of such a special time in my life.

5. Slippers – Slipping into a cozy pair of slippers on days where my feet are aching, by the end of the day feels amazing. These ones are my favorite.

6. Hand Sanitizer – Being pregnant and sick is no fun. I love this chemical-free hand sanitizer, that’s also toddler-friendly.

7. Active Maternity Series on Beachbody on Demand – Second Trimester: Get Strong  At my first doctor’s appointment, I asked if there were any exercises I shouldn’t be doing, and my doctor responded jumping jacks, plyometrics or using a treadmill. There are jumping jacks in the second trimester workout, but I just modify them. It’s great to have a workout designed with safe exercises to stay fit, and help get prepared for labor, and are less than 25 minutes! 8. Maternity Denim – I was surprised to find how in love with maternity denim I would be! From a perfect skinny fit, to cute distressed styles and washes, this brand is my favorite, I have 4 different variations.

I can’t even tell you how excited I am for you to try this recipe! We are constantly grilling in the Summer, so this dish couldn’t be more perfect (or more simple!) Inspired by Fixate, it’s a healthier alternative to starches, and is heartier than my usual lunch swap, a lettuce wrap.

I used Amy’s Sonoma Burgers (vegan/gluten free), and my hubby and I made homemade Turkey Burgers from the Fixate Cookbook.

Serves 4

Ingredients:

1 Large Eggplant, sliced thick

1 Small Tomato, sliced

1/4 Onion, sliced

1 Avocado, sliced

Lettuce

4 Burger Patties of choice

Olive Oil

Seasonings: Rosemary, Parsley, Pink Himalayan Salt, Fresh Ground Pepper

Condiments: Vegan Mayo, Organic Ketchup & Organic Mustard

Cheese, optional

Directions:

Mix olive oil with seasonings in a small bowl.

Brush eggplant and sliced onion with oil mixture, lightly.

Grill eggplant and onion until crispy.

Place burgers on the grill until cooked.

Layer on the toppings & condiments.

I served mine with my Too Delicious To Dip Sweet Potato Fries. Yum!

I’ve been expanding our usual eats, with some creative swaps and cuisines lately, and putting a healthy spin on them. This recipe was delicious, and one of my hubby’s faves. It can be made vegan or non-vegan. I made both and just added the preferred meat to the individual dish. Mostly a one-pot meal with the addition of the meat on the side. It has the perfect amount of kick, without being too spicy. If you’re following the 21 Day Fix meal plan, the healthy swaps fit right in.

1 Scoop Vegan Chocolate Shakeology

1 frozen Banana, sliced into chunks

1/4 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

1 Tbsp Vanilla Bean Espresso Almond Butter

Place almond milk, banana, shakeology, and almond butter in blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Top with your favorite nuts or coconut shreds.

21 Day Fix Approved Chia Seed Pudding

4 oz Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

2 Tbsp Chia Seeds

1 Tbsp Rolled Oats

1 Drop Vanilla Creme Stevia (optional)

Mango, Strawberries, Blueberries (or fruit of choice)

Add chia seeds, oats, almond milk, and stevia (optional) to bowl. Mix well. Let sit overnight (for best consistency.) Add fresh or frozen fruit of choice. Enjoy!

1 Orange | 1 Yellow | 1 Purple (depending on the amount of fruit added)

Detox Lemonade

  • 3 Lemons
  • 10 Shakes Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Packet SweetLeaf Stevia
  • 1 Pitcher Purified Water

Slice one lemon, thinly and add to pitcher. Cut the remaining two lemons in half and squeeze juice from all four pieces into pitcher. Add packet of Stevia, and Cayenne Pepper. Fill pitcher with water. Refrigerate.  Enjoy 🙂
