detangling brush / volumizer / protein cream / hydrating oil / shine spray / shine brush / curling rod / hairspray / dry shampoo / shower cap
I rock my best “loose/undone waves” once they have been slept in. I sometimes style my hair the day of, but it gives a more done up look instead of an I woke up like this perfectly fallen waves (literally.) Doing this routine the night before makes for an extremely easy morning, eliminating any styling, while achieving perfectly fallen waves, that with the help of dry shampoo and shine spray will last a day or two afterwards.
After washing my hair I use a detangling brush to smoothly brush out my wet strands. I then spray a volumizer at the roots, a protein cream from the crown down and the layers around my face (it works wonders!), and use a couple drops of a hydrating oil on my ends (it keeps ends shiny & speeds up the drying time.)
After blow drying or letting it air dry, or a combination of the two, I spritz on a shine spray from the crown down, and around my face. I grab a section of hair and smooth through it with a shine brush (this helps eliminate frizz & great for blow drying too) and use a curling rod to make slightly undone curls. (Video tutorial coming soon!)
To do this, I hold the curling rod upside down, vertically, and wrap the section of hair around it in the direction away from my face, and holding the ends with my fingers to secure it. I hold each curl for about 20 seconds and then unravel, as I still hold the curling rod vertically upside down. I do this until all sections are complete, in no particular order so it doesn’t look too uniform, then spray my favorite medium finish hold hairspray throughout. It keeps curls intact, but keeps hair feeling and looking soft, instead of crunchy or straw-like. Once cool, you can work your fingers through it.
By the next morning the sections have fallen into the perfectly loose waves. I have never been a fan of shower caps, because they have always held more humidity and moisture, until I came across this one by Drybar (at Sephora) The terrycloth lining prevents moisture, and keeps your locks looking exactly the same before you slipped it on. I usually throw my hair into a loose messy bun and slip on the shower cap while showering. When I’m finished, I remove and spray a little dry shampoo at the roots for volume and to avoid greasiness, while holding the rest of my hair away, not to get it anywhere else. I then spritz a little shine spray and work my fingers through if needed, and it’s complete! Having extra time in the morning without having to style and having a good hair day at the same time equals double perks! For the following days, repeat with the shower cap, dry shampoo (roots only), and shine spray around the face and crown down. You can use the shine brush and redo any waves to touch up, as well.
