Before Hudson started preschool, I scheduled activities for him for learning and creative play to keep busy throughout the day. Some have certainly stuck as favorites he goes back to time and time again.
#1 Beans – Ready to be mind blown? Some of the best money I have ever spent was on a few bags of dried beans and a storage container. As crazy as it sounds, there are so many possibilities to be creative and make it exciting! Hudson loves construction vehicles, so when he wants to dig and dump, we keep the beans simple. We add in fun objects that Hudson scoops out with shovels, or it becomes a track for monster trucks and Hot Wheels cars. For practicing letters and numbers, we add magnets to “fish out,” and name each once they are “caught.” To change it up Hudson likes to add dinosaurs and palm trees. Sometimes we add measuring spoons, cups, spatulas and muffin tins, as well. LEGO Duplos can be built inside, also. Adding seashells, and deep sea animals is another fun option. You can also create themed beans for any holiday. The options are literally endless!
#2 Do A Dot Art – Another favorite, shared in this post, where kids of all ages can use their imagination to create art or fill Do a Dot Coloring pages! Our favorites are linked as well.
#3 Cooking & Baking – Hudson gets so excited if I ask him if he’d like to help me make lunch or bake cookies. He loves playing sous chef, and measuring out ingredients. Toddler cookbooks, aprons and baking kits are all linked here.
#4 Workbooks – From tracing letters and numbers to matching and stickers, workbooks are a great way to educate while keeping toddlers busy and excited. I linked our favorites!
#5 Sticker Books – Reusable sticker books are great activities for little ones to use their imagination repeatedly. I linked a variety here. They also make great Easter gifts!
#6 Games – Instead of tv or screen time before Hudson goes to bed, we started implementing playing games last year, and it is one of our favorite rituals. Zingo is hands down our favorite, more favorites are linked here!
