A Lacey Day

I love to accumulate “easy-chic” dresses, that exude comfort, and don’t require many accessories. They serve as a major go-to when sunny weather hits–if you’re in a hurry, it can easily be thrown on without much thinking required. Basic hues and styles are essential, but bold color and texture make a great hybrid–going from beach to brunch. Being on the shorter side, this tank dress makes a great pool/beach coverup, pairing well with any hue.

DIY Kiss Print I’m all about a hot pink lip this season, so when I spotted this adorable Kiss print on P.S.-I made this… I had to recreate it.
IMG_4478
I rounded up my favorite hues, and layered each color on a piece of cardstock until the print was complete.

Once finished, I framed the print and hung it in my bathroom. Such a fun new addition.

Happy Valentine’s Day xo

Friday Finds {The Subtle Statement}

  1. Vday Mani. I’m obsessed with this power duo by my fave 3-free polish, butter LONDON.
  2. Oscar Blandi ’Post Workout Essentials’ Kit. What’s worse than a bad hair day? Gym hair. This kit is meant to do the trick to savor that blowout just one more day.
  3. Champagne Ice Cubes. …Tip* Keep in the freezer for impromptu mimosas.
  4. Freeze Your Jeans. I came across this alternative tip from on Madewell’s Tumblr page.

“Shh…a jean secret our denim team swears by:

Though it may sound strange, we say don’t wash your jeans. What to do instead? Pack them in a plastic bag and freeze them for a day or two. All unsavory elements will disappear—and your beloved blues won’t have faded or shrunk in the process (like they would in the wash!).”

Q: How Do You Pair A Red Tuxedo Blazer?

I love getting asked by friends and family how to pair items they own different ways. One of my favorite parts of fashion is styling looks, so I was excited to share when a TSS reader, Sheri, asked how she can pair her new red and black tuxedo blazer.

The great thing about a red blazer is that the bold hue is such a statement piece. Throw it on over basics, and it’s the ultimate fashion update. There are endless options to pairing this piece, so I put together three looks to show you how this piece will surely expand your wardrobe, using pieces you might already own.

Blazer: DSquared  /  Top: Mango  /  Denim: Paige  /  Earrings: BaubleBar  /  Handbag: Mango  /  Boots: Forever 21

This look puts a trendy spin on your most simple basics. An ankle boot is can be sported year round, and simple embellishment is a sleek touch. This look can be worn for day or night.

Top: SheInside  /  Blazer: DSquared  /  Jeggings: Michael Kors  /  Handbag: Mango  /  Boots: Wanted  /  Watch: Michael Kors

For days you want to be comfortable, yet chic, riding boots are key. A black jegging gives the look of comfort, without looking sloppy. Complete your look with a simple silver boyfriend watch.

Top: Mango  /  Blazer: DSquared  /  Denim: Paige  /  Handbag: Mango   /  Heels: Mango

A textured blouse is a great staple to pair with bold pieces. A trendy cap toe heel, and shimmery clutch make this look night time approved.

Thanks for your question, Sheri! I hope this gives you inspiration to pair your blazer endless ways!

If you have a style question or need inspiration or an item(s) in your closet, send them my way!

DIY: Candy Buffet

05 Thursday Jul 2012

The latest in party couture is upgrading your traditional dessert table to a sweet-tooth indulged dream. Candy buffets are a conversation piece for any party, where you can let your creativity run free. I recently styled a “Sweet Treat” themed graduation party, from the candy buffet to the centerpieces. These tips are great for creating a fabulous candy buffet to suit any party or event.

20120705-103516.jpg

Keep a consistent color theme. Decide on the theme colors for your party and stay within those colors for a cohesive aesthetic. Here, the theme colors were red, white and black, and we chose silver for an accent color.

20120705-103630.jpgChoose a main focus for your table. The two-tired cake stands with marshmallow pops is the center focus for this table. You can choose to mirror your table for a cohesive look (like this one), or if you are working with only a few items, you can create an abstract display. Create a diagram beforehand deciding where each jar and cake stand will go and which items will go in them, so you aren’t short jars or stands.

Create a banner or confetti garland in the coordinating colors of your theme for added decor. There are endless opportunities for backdrops that can be created on the wall behind the table, if the venue permits it.

20120705-103705.jpgCreate different levels of height. I took two styrofoam boards, hot glued them together, and covered them in the same silk white fabric I used for the tablecloth. I took an additional piece of styrofoam and covered it in a coordinating printed fabric and placed it on top. This gave the back row height. Stacking cake stands is another way to create different levels of height.

Create coordinating tags yourself on your computer to label each item. Choose a font that coordinates with the style of your theme. Choose coordinating ribbons to decorate the jars and cake stands.

20120705-103826.jpg

Get creative! Explore your favorite Pinterest boards and party blogs to find unique treats that you can DIY. Everything here were DIY projects found on Pinterest. Create your own Pinterest board (like the one I did for this party) or mood board for your party to keep your ideas organized. Planning and organization play a large role in the execution of your candy buffet.

20120705-112335.jpgThis graduation was themed, “Sweet Treats,” so we incorporated the candy items into the centerpieces, as well.

Choose candy you will be using to go along with your theme colors. Candy Warehouse conveniently lets you browse candy by color.

Tj Maxx HomeGoods is a great place to find apothecary jars and cake stands of all shapes and sizes, all at very affordable prices!

A fun look I took from day to night, by adding stilettos and a black blazer. Warm weather inspires me to choose bright hues.
