The perfect combination of yogurt, layered with fresh fruit and granola is a hard treat to resist. I’m all for the health benefits of probiotics, but the 18+ grams of sugar per serving is a major downside (probiotic supplements are a calorie-free alternative). What may seem like a “healthy” breakfast or dessert, can surely be filled with added sugars and unwanted calories (at least vegan options). After discovering Chef Chloe’s vegan blog, I had to try her recipe for Summer Smoothie Parfaits. I added frozen strawberries and almond milk, and refrigerated overnight for a refreshing breakfast the next day, sans sugar. I was surprised to find out that the taste and texture were almost identical to yogurt! So yummy!

At Saturday’s Film Independent Spirit Awards, stars donned all that is hot among Spring trends.

Zoe Saldana rocked a flirty Balmain mini, combining the season’s florals and mixed prints. Steal her style with this adorable find from Miss Sixty.

This isn’t the first time, Elizabeth Olsen has been spotted sporting an all white ensemble this month.  The Antonio Berardi piece makes a statement, looking elegant and chic.

Michelle Williams took a fashion risk in a Louis Vuitton short suit.  Although I admire her confidence, an understated pastel shade from the designer’s SS12 runway would have softened the look and complemented her fair skin tone.

Perfectly accessorized in gold, Kate Beckinsale stunned in a bold magenta Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit. Would you dare to wear this bold jumper from Asos, as a sleek alternative to a skirt or dress?

(Getty Images) – Topping off the Winter white Oscar trend, Gwyneth Paltrow looked ah-mazing in her form fitting gown and chic floor length cape.  The intricate diamond cuff and ring top off her stunning ensemble.  She never fails to disappoint with her effortless sleek style.

(via Fashionologie) – Elie Saab ranks somewhere in between dreams and fairytales. The perfect combination of glamour and romanticism, Milla Jovovich dazzled in the ornate gown by the designer.

(via Celebrity-Gossip) – Rooney Mara shied away from her usual dark hued choices, and opted for a romantic fluid gown. I love that she let the dress make a statement, without donning jewelry.

(via Mail Online) – Giuliana Rancic truly shined. The ultimate definition of a oscar gown.

(Getty Images) – Octavia Spencer looked absolutely stunning in this beaded fitted gown. She made perfect choices with color, fit, and sparkle. I couldn’t be happier for her emotional win for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Help.

Congratulations to Meryl Streep, ecstatic for her 3rd win & 17th nom!

Healthy Tofu Scramble

After my morning workout, I decided to switch up my usual breakfast of a Green Protein Smoothie for protein packed tofu scramble and ezekiel toast.  I found this recipe at Post Punk Kitchen.  With just the right amount of spices, the healthy dish was full of flavor.  The amazing health benefits of adding cumin to your meal can be found here. Turmeric, a superfood, is a great anti-inflammatory, and nutritional yeast is abundant in B12 and folic acid. I substituted Lite Firm Tofu and I omitted the salt, yielding the nutritional content – Calories: 150 / Fat: 9.6g / Sodium: 44mg / Carbohydrates: 4.7 / Fiber: 4g / Protein: 14.1g.

The flirty, vibrant hues displayed at the Salvatore Ferragamo SS’12 show are enough to convince anyone to jet set to a tropical retreat.  If a sizzling vaca isn’t on your agenda, why not visualize your own paradise by adding hibiscus florals, raffia accessories, and pops of brilliant color.

From the front row of fashion week, to the pages of fashion magazines, and being spotted with fellow fashion forward socialite, Olivia Palermo, Bianca Brandolini D’adda is clearly in the fashion spotlight. The Italian socialite is muse to Giambattista Valli and can make any pair of skinny jeans look ultimately chic. It’s easy to see why her style choices are increasing her growing popularity. Her effortlessly chic look proves that subtlety truly does make a statement.

My boyfriend and I ventured to DC for a fun filled weekend, exploring the unknown.  As we drove into Georgetown, I fell in love with the colonial setting of the shops and restaurants lining M Street. The city had a small town vibe, that was simple to navigate.    In the short period of time during our visit, we walked through the city, touring some of it’s hot spots. A recommendation would be not to travel to the city during the cold Winter month of February, but to our advantage it was the off-season, seeing minimal tourists. Being a health conscious vegan, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that much of the city’s restaurants offered vegan options, or even separate vegan menus.  Any city that offers vegan brunch in multiple non-vegan restaurants, is definitely livable by me. We visited the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars winner, Sticky Fingers Bakery.  The vegan bakery served the most delectable french toast and sticky buns, and they’re cupcakes are pretty amazing too. Busboys & Poets had to be my preferred choice, with it’s unique atmosphere, and amazing offerings of vegan options. Smoke & Barrel offered bbq, along with vegan wings and brunch. Yola, a healthy yogurt bar, was the perfect treat.

We stayed on Capitol Hill, making much of the city’s monuments and museums within close walking distance. The National Museum of American History houses interesting classic pieces, such as the infamous Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers, and dresses that belonged to everyone from Jackie O. to Michelle Obama. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum was a cool hands on experience, complete with interior tours of vintage aircrafts. We weren’t able to view all of the great tourist attractions that the city offers, but we definitely plan to visit again, particularly in the Summer months.

Fish Scale Wall Art Tutorial

What I used:

  • 3 12″ x 24″ Canvas Boards
  • 6 Sheets of Acrylic Paper
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • 1 3/4″ Paper Punch
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Clear Kraft Glue
  • Metallic Spray Paint

Using a paper punch, punch circles out of the acrylic paper.  I used 190 circles per board.

Measure 1″ lines horizontally down the canvas. Glue down individual circles along the lines.

After each circle is glued,  use an X-acto knife to cut off excess paper around the canvas.

Use metallic spray paint to paint the entire canvas. Let dry 24 hours before bringing inside.

Lip Repair

I have found the perfect solution to repair dry, chapped lips.  Mary Kay sells a life changing set called Satin Lips, which consists of a Lip Mask and Balm.  Along with my coveted Kiehl’s Lip Balm, they create a powerful force that can transform any pout to be silky and smooth.  Apply the Lip Mask for 2-5 minutes, remove with a tissue.  Next apply Kiehl’s Lip Balm.  Lastly, apply Mary Kay Lip Balm.  You won’t believe how long the combo keeps your lips moisturized.
